Scientific Program
The program of ASV'05 includes scientific symposia, workshops, and poster sessions, as well as special educational presentations and collegial social events. The meeting will begin on Saturday, June 18, at 3:00 p.m. with a welcome reception, followed by a keynote address at 5:30 p.m., both located at Eisenhower Auditorium on the Penn State University Park campus. The first set of simultaneous workshops (10-minute presentations) will begin at 7:00 p.m. that evening in classrooms close to Eisenhower Auditorium.

Plenary symposia are scheduled for the mornings of Sunday, June 19; Monday, June 20; Tuesday, June 21; and Wednesday, June 22, in Eisenhower Auditorium. Additional simultaneous workshops are scheduled for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday afternoons and Sunday and Monday evenings on campus. Some workshops will include special 30-minute state-of-the-art lectures. Posters will be displayed from Sunday until Tuesday at the HUB-Robeson Student Union Building (HUB), with scheduled discussion sessions on Sunday and Monday afternoon.

Montreal, McGill University
Two satellite symposia, "New Models for Understanding Viral Pathogenesis," sponsored by the Veterinary Virology Club, and "Current Trends in Plant Virology," sponsored by the Plant Virology Club, will be held simultaneously in the HUB-Robeson Student Union building on Saturday, June 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., just prior to the ASV'05 conference. Participants must register for these satellite symposia and pay fees in addition to those for the general meeting.

ASV Public Affairs Workshop on "Open Access Scientific Publishing," will be held on Monday, June 20th, from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. The topic of the Public Affairs Workshop is 'Open Access Scientific Publishing'. The world of scientific publishing is rapidly changing, with increasing call upon publishers for free and immediate distribution of the peer-reviewed scientific literature. Two leaders from the world of publishing will provide their perspectives on the pros and cons of open access: Dr. Samuel Kaplan, Chair of the Publications Board of the American Society for Microbiology, and Professor and Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, University of Texas-Houston Medical School; and Dr. John Hawley, Executive Director, Journal of Clinical Investigation.
