The American Society for Virology (ASV) was founded in 1981 to provide a forum
for investigators of human, animal, insect, plant, fungal, and bacterial viruses,
whether the research involves the use of clinical, ecological, biological, or
biochemical approaches. Among the Society's activities is sponsorship of an annual
meeting, designed to promote discussion and collaboration among scientists active
in all aspects of virology. ASV now invites you to attend the 24th annual
meeting of the Society, to be held on the Penn State University Park campus from
Saturday, June 18, to Wednesday, June 22, 2005. Meeting
Site The Pennsylvania State University Park campus offers a beautiful and convenient setting for ASV'05.
Nestled in the wooded hills and valleys of central Pennsylvania, the campus is
one of the original land-grant university sites signed into law by President Abraham
Lincoln. Penn State has evolved into a vibrant scientific community with an outstanding
collection of laboratories, emerging as a premier center of education and research
in the sciences. Take a virtual tour of the Penn State campus. Download PowerPoint presentation to get the detailed maps and conference specifics.
The University skirts the picturesque and lively downtown State College, which offers hundreds of shops, fine dining, and ethnic restaurants
as well as numerous hotels, in a safe, college-town setting. Downtown is a short
walk from all of our ASV venues. We are offering Penn State's newest residential
cluster for on-campus accommodations--Eastview Terrace, with 800 single rooms, each with air conditioning and a private bath.
Recreational facilities on campus include two eighteen-hole golf courses, tennis
courts, Olympic-size swimming pools, indoor squash, handball and paddleball courts,
and two indoor jogging tracks. Link to visitor's bureau. Local Organization The
virology community of Penn State, which includes faculty and students at the University
Park campus as well as Penn State Hershey Medical Center, is honored to host the 24th Annual Meeting of
the American Society for Virology. The local organizer for ASV'05 is Dr.Craig Cameron of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. SUMMARY
